SA Sprint and Middle Distance Championships

Tuesday, 1 September 2009

Saturday - Sprint Championships

Nuriootpa was the venue for the Sprint Distance event, and this was a day where an early start meant running in heavy rain and a short burst of hail as SA saw a late winter burst of cold and wet weather.  Peter Mayer set the courses on the map of parkland and school grounds.  Susanne Casanova (visiting from Darwin) and Simon Uppill won the women and men open courses.

Sunday - Middle Distance Championships

The technically challenging area of Pewsey Vale near Angaston  was the venue for the Middle Distance event, with Bob Smith setting courses.  The terrain was wet underfoot after rain over the previous few days, but only some light drizzle fell during the event.  The courses traversed the little used northwest corner of the map in addition to the technical rocky central section.  Jenny Casanova won the 4.4. km W21A course, just one second ahead of her sister Susanne, whilst Simon Uppill again was successful in M21A ahead of John Nieuwenhoven.

For other class winners see Results and Splits

The local championship season concludes in 2 weeks with the Long Championships to be held north of Burra.  SA Orienteers will then travel to Victoria at the end of September for the Australian Championships events.
